I just noticed that George. That's where my helper's been for the last two or three monthes. Owes me ten bucks too. :D He even speaks Thai. I've tried to hire him to cuss people out in Thai. (Only people that deserve it). He still hasn't agreed to though.
I was expecting the return of Beavis and Butthead at that remark. Obviously I misjudged the level of the room! :D

Re: RETRACTION

Oh Boy! It looks like I get to be the first to say "Merry Christmas" on Christmas day itself. :)

Nah, better not. I wouldn't be able to spell it right. When I grew up (#6 out of 8 kids), we always substituted two S?s for the two R?s. ;)

Re: RETRACTION

I had a fellow electrician tell me ground up on receptacles was NEC requirement but I could not find it in the code, but I am not a code geek either. :)

Re: RETRACTION

So if I just add:

"if I want to."

to the end of the sections I don't like.........

Charlie, sometimes it's right under your nose the whole time and you just don't see it. :D :D

Re: RETRACTION

Physis, does what you said in the last post mean it is in there somewhere? We always installed them ground down and seems like everybody else did too.

No, there isn't any code article on the orientation of the ground slot.....thank goodness!!! :D

Re: RETRACTION

Roger, I think our inspector would turn down that receptacle mounting. I have never tried that one but feel like it would be quite tricky. Think I would prefer PVC tee.

Re: RETRACTION

Ghelec, the receptacle was made by Crouse Hinds for metalic condulets.

For fun try one of the receptacles below (From Hubbell) somewhere and see what he says.

Re: RETRACTION

Roger, I thought I'd seen all of them. :)

Edit: I took out the rolly eyed guy.

Re: RETRACTION

No Ghelec, the NEC has no directive in regard to receptacle orientation.

Except upward and horizontal.

Re: RETRACTION

What a stealth topic this is. I see "retraction" and pass right by. Come back to 4 pages thinking I better see what's going on. I find absolutely nothing! Ground up or down? No one dares start a new topic with that as the title.

Re: RETRACTION

Ghelec, I'll add this because somebody mentioned it here before and I thought it had merit:

If you put the ground down and something metal falls from the wall vertically and lands on the plug prongs you may have an issue.

If the ground is up you wont.

Although this is a real potentiality I still install ground down. :)
