I have been named employee of the month several times where I currently work. The EOM gets a certficate and a thank-you card signed by the big shots. In with the thank-you card is a nice crisp fifty dollar bill.
The whole comapny gets free lunch once a month as part of the monthly meeting when the EOM is annouced. The cynic in me tends to think it is a way for the company to have a monthly meeting w/o having to pay for the time spent going to the meeting. But another part of me says its also a nice gesture.
