RNC above ground...

I have looked at 352,RNC, and I can't find anything that would prohibit using this to run along the ground. This run will be around a flower garden along the privacy fence. I am unable to trench this due to the amount of tree roots in this area. This will be about a 30' run.

Have I missed anything here?

As long as you use Sch. 80, you should be fine. I could see an inspector vetoing the use of Sch. 40 in this case under 352.12(C).

Though the ground would provide support of the conduit, it would not be secured. You would need to strap it to the fence. I agree schedule 80 should be used.

Keep in mind PVC has a large thermal expansion coefficient. 9" in a 100 degree change of temp. It will look like a noodle if you don't allow for it.
