Romex Colors

The idea for color coding NM came from a book by Rex Cauldwell called Wiring a House, For Pros by Pros.

The boss at Southwire read this book and decided to implement the color-coding.

Rex writes about this on page 134 of the 4th edition.

I heard that the inspectors asked manufacturers to color code to make their job easier.

That was my understanding when it happened.

He was also writing articles for Fine Home Building around the same time and there is one article where there is a picture of him spray painting a 250' reel of 12-2 romex yellow. I'm sure that's why Southwire went with that for 12.

Have the uncensored T-shirt* with CRS on it, but usually say I suffer from CRS with the censored version meaning Can't Remember Stuff.

*Given to me but too small, but not sure I would ever be seen wearing one that fit me.
