Re: romex wire

Perhaps i am wrong, but my thinking says that an EC should have the right to pull a meter.Actually if the poco took any action on a EC that pulled a meter i think they could find themself in court. When or loose they are asking for it.Personally i have cut several hundred seals and never had any problem from them.I always make sure they are called and told why.Yes it's there cash register but i am not stealing anything and i have a right to protect myself. Now if they are willing to have a person on call 24/7 to pull it with reasonable wait (30 minutes) then fine. This is an issue of safety over money anyway we play it.

Re: romex wire

But I don't have a key for the good percentage of 'em around here that are locked.

Re: romex wire

My original response was way harsh, and was mostly intended to spur converstaion.

I must admit that I'll cut a seal in a second if I feel the need to do so. Many of the lineman in my area give me a supply of seals to put back on during these instances. (Psst... keep that a secret).

Re: romex wire

They don't care if qualified people pull meters around here. At least if they're not locked.

They sell the typical E.J. Brooks seal key on eBay from time to time. :D

Re: romex wire

OK, we all agree that it's best to shut down the power while work in a panel. But the real world doesn't allow us to be able to do this all the time. We all work with live circuits in the housing market. We open the panel box with the cover off and check to see how much current we're drawing off a circuit to figure out why it's tripping. If you work in industrial or commercial field your chances are not so good to have the panel shut down if your adding a circuit unless it's a very large one. Production downtime is money. The only advice I can come up with is that if you do work in panels that are hot wear your gloves, face shield and other safety equipment that's required in performing the job. Also always have another person with you at all times monitoring what you're doing.

Re: romex wire

Here we have just simple meter seal , a pair of dikes and meter is out of the system correct problem call poco to reseal the meter. This can all be done without a permit in pocos rules, but let the county electrical inspector drive by and they post a big red stop work order on the front door.In one case we were adding 2 recessed cans missed on rough in and service crew went to install them mr ahj was furious where isthe permit.... Slapped a stop work order and made us pull a permit. Then 30.00 tag when he went to inspect due to a locked door the homeowner was home all he did was try the knob  and walked off.As far as I am concerned this guy wants a permit to r + r a receptacle or install a dimmer  Come on how far do we take this

Re: romex wire

Allen,i assume this was in Pasco.Maybe its time to use unmarked vans.I use to work for a company that would do major remodeling with no permit.Would make my day if he was to get caught. There should be some limit as to what does not require a permit.Maybe like under $200
