Service Grounding

Does anyone know if it is or isn't legal to put a ground rod on either side of a feeder for a house. Basically having your grounding system straddel the feeder.

Re: Service Grounding

You use of the term "feeder" has me a bit confused. Please refer to the definition of "feeder" and "service conductors" and perhaps you might be able to better describe your question?

Re: Service Grounding

Thanks, I appreciate the help. I ran into a situation where I had to do this, and had never seen it before. I just wanted to make sure (I couldn't find anything). Thanks again!

Re: Service Grounding

As long it is connected within the load end of the service drop or laterial and not past the service disc. means
250.24 Grounding Service-Supplied Alternating-Current Systems.
(A) System Grounding Connections. A premises wiring system supplied by a grounded ac service shall have a grounding electrode conductor connected to the grounded service conductor, at each service, in accordance with 250.24(A)(1) through (A)(5).
(1) General. The connection shall be made at any accessible point from the load end of the service drop or service lateral to and including the terminal or bus to which the grounded service conductor is connected at the service disconnecting means.

Re: Service Grounding

The two rods still have to be at least six feet apart. Best practice is to have them at least their own length apart.
