Duplex. $ is mainly why.
I like plastic handy-boxes for this, and haven't seen a single-receptacle plate for them.

Can be one a single 20 amp circuit if the two units together do not exceed 20 amps.

Two singles or one duplex. The duplex would require simultaneous disconnect of the two circuits on a single yoke.
