Sizing wire size for AC Condensors

Id say the overload was not correct. Its should trip when the unit is drawing over the MCA. In this case it was so high it tripped the breaker which was 2 sizes over the MCA.

My concern is whether the OLR would operate on any short circuit fault prior to CB, just as the CB operated on overload prior to OLR.

That is less likely, since the OLR will not include a separate instantaneous magnetic trip, but both the CB and the OLR have an inverse time mechanism.

Well instead of short circuit,let it be heavy overload of such magnitude that the OLR is not eligible to clear it. But it tends to do that impermissible fault clearing in the present case due to mismatch.
