May I ask why you need to box the top of the panel in? Are they planning on finishing this basement?

It just looks nicer. Plus it keeps the inspector from griping about 'exposed' NM. To the left of the gas meter is they laundry pair, and below it is the sump pump, so that area's not likely to get finished.

Protection against physical damage for those deadly exposed romexes. Duh. Don't you know that everyone plays lawn darts in their basement?

Well, I was thinking that perhaps they're going to have a woodsman's competition down there, and they need to protect that romex from axes and chainsaws.

Does Iowa enforce the NEC statewide?

Not yet. We're in the process of getting state-wide licensing, and enforcement will probably start this fall or winter. The board has adopted the '05 for now, just to have a standard to go by. Licenses should be issued as soon as their equipment comes in.

Here's all the goodies about it.

I'm glad to hear it. I don't know how long you've had local enforcement there but up along the border here there are some real shady installations. It's night and day in some areas. This spring at the code update class a contractor from Iowa asked what an arc-fault breaker was. Could've heard a pin drop.

He's probably one of the several hundred that haven't heard about the state-wide licensing.

It offsets and goes up the inside of the wall to the roof.

Here's the original photo. Warning: it's a large file, so dialup users may not want to wait.

The HO is installing geothermal, and 100a just ain't a gonna cut it.

Does anyone else see the irony in requiring a larger electrical service for a supposedly energy-saving heating system? What are the natural gas rates in this area?

I see more irony in the 7,000 sq. foot house that is using energy saving techniques. Go Green --- It's an oxymoron- a green 7000 sq. foot house.

Somewhat like a hybrid SUV. :D

Somewhat like this? ;)

I will have a triple whopper with cheese, biggie fries and a diet coke.

Not at all. The world would not be the same without cows. :D

Yeah it would be a lot cooler,.... methane is 20 times the greenhouse gas that co2 is:smile: So eat those cows while you can afford them ,.. some day there might just be a limit as to how many are allowed ,...not kidding ,...either that or you'll have to buy cow credits ,.. they will figure a way just you watch and see.
