My feet seem to have grown and my old work shoes no longer fit (one would think at 50 one's feet would stop growing).

My shoe size is now 12EW and no place in town carries anything that fits me, so it will be the Internet for me.

Anyone have any advice for whats comfortable? Are the plastic toes more comfortable?

Haven't had to wear my old steel toes for several years now, but it looks like I will need a pair soon.

I find the nonmetallic toe caps more comfortable (not as cold) in the winter. When the topic of boots comes up on other contractor boards (which it does on a regular basis), the consensus seems to trend toward Redwing. I've never worn that brand, myself, but that does seem to come up as the most preferred brand a lot.

A few years ago, we found Stanley steel-toe shoes at a discount shoe store. They were similar to these, but were hi-tops, which helps keep debris out of them, and were about $30.

Just put trashbags over your feet and zip tie them on.

seriously, though, a lot of guys have size 12 shoes, can't believe you can't find anything. maybe you should move to a more accomodating town ?

I always seem to work outside in bad weather, so I have always bought nylon toes (I spend a couple years on a loader and I guess I heard too many stories about frozen toes)

Redwing, hands down the best boots you can buy, they may cost a little more but they also last longer and minimize the wear and tear on your feet and legs.

Be sure to get EH rated and steel toes (Or plastic kind if you work in the cold)

I am on my second pair of the same style Timberlands. They are EH, non-metallic toe. Lightweight, not to warm in summer , just right in winter. I stick a pair of gel insoles for added cushion, About $130.

I've worn Redwing 6" boots at work for years. They are about $150 a pair right now.
Redwing has wide toe shoes now...as other majors do...
Your Feet only cause they go flat, Nose and ears, I can only assume brain power...

all I have to say is try to find boots made in America.
That's what I did this last time around. I bought Chippewa boots. I was doing work for a customer who is a state police officer, and they recently switched to that brand for the force. He raved about them. I paid just over 200 bucks for that pair (USA made, mind you) and they're hands-down the most uncomfortable pair of boots I've ever owned. I guess everyone's feet are built different. I'll never own a pair of Chippewa's again.

I have large, wide feet size 14 extra wide, and I have bought my last 4 pairs of boots at zappos.com they have a huge variety and free returns if you dont like them. I like the dr. martens myself, steel toe, eh rated. They have a good search feature also, they will find what you want

I worked as a security guard while I was going to school. I found the most comfortable shoes for walking (and I did a lot of it on rounds) were surplus army combat boots. Most people that has been in the army hated them but I found them to be just about perfect for me. I think they were like $10 at the surplus store back then.

I have wide feet and a very high arch, I bought some Rocky brand a year ago and they were great right out of the box. It was November when I bought them and my company pays $100 per year for our steel toed boots. So in January I bought another pair just in case they stopped making them. The old ones are still in great shape, and I'm rough on boots. The extra pair is still in the box .
They only cost $110 !!!!!

I had the same trouble with a pair of Chippewa's
For years I used Wesco climbing boots but awhile ago I bought a pair of Redwing Thinsulated boots and there the best boot I've ever used
