i also have a pair of wolverines ( not e rated) and a pair of rockies (e-rated). the wolverines are 3 to 4 years old, their sizes seems to run a little long compared to others, so i use them for roofing and other remodeling activities where the uppers take a beating. the rockies are thinsulate, cammo, etc. and are used strictly for outdoor winter activities. Very stiff boot when new, hard to break in and not for high instep, but feet are warm and dry. i think the pros are like wearing slippers, comfy from the getgo.

Also, American-made...

When I worked for the state they had switched to Danner (brand) boots. American-made and very comfortable. It's good to know of other "made in USA" boots.

I've had Red Wings in the past but they weren't all that comfortable for me. For the past couple years I've worn Dunham boots and have gotten good mileage out of them. I wear a 13 EEEE, so it is difficult to find a good fitting pair of boots AND shoes.

I think I read somewhere that our feet don't really grow as we age but SPREAD OUT. Not that it makes any difference if the shoes don't fit anymore.

ive had three or four pairs of the wolverine durashocks and they are really good boots just bought a pair of carolinas and so far they seem to be great, really comfortable, easy break in, and a good looking boot. a little on the pricey side at 170 bucks but youll soon forget how much a good pair of boots cost but youll always remember how much an uncomfortable pair was:smile: .and how do you guys get years and years out of a pair of boots? i can get two years max before theyre falling off my feet

buy two pairs and rotate them every day to allow the sweat to dry out for a day before wearing them again, and dont drag your feet....

After rave reviews, I bought a pair of Redwings about a year and a half ago. They took a month to break in, but I've worn them every work day since I bought them and I'm just starting to wear through the treads at the balls of my feet, since I tend to shuffle along instead of picking up my feet. I always buy insoles, since I flatten the arches of whatever shoes I'm wearing pretty quick anyway, so I don't know if other boots would have held up better that way.

I've always bought the cheapest work boots I could find and blow through them in four months, so I guess overall the price was worth it, since they've lasted five times longer at this point. I think I'm about due for a new pair.

I bought the composite-toe style, which are much better in winter than steel toes. They were about $125, IIRC.

I ended up getting a pair of zip up half boots at Farm and Fleet. Brand name is Work and Sport. I wore them this morning and so far they are pretty comfortable. Steel toe and EH, although I am not sure I needed the EH for anything, but figured it was better to have it and not have another issue for the safety Nazis at this place to whine about. I really wanted Velcro style fasteners, but the zip up ones seem OK. Never had a pair like that before.

Last pair of safety shoes were 11W. These are 13EE. The 11Ws are barely used but no longer fit my feet. Salvation Army will be getting a shoe donation soon.

I talked to my boss Friday and their corporate safety guy is quibbling over a few words found in our safety manual. I am not sure what the issue is exactly, but it seems pretty silly as we have had engineers working thousands of hours over the last few years in other locations for the same people.

It's been my experience that safety guys always quibble over something .
If they aren't stirring up trouble somewhere , their boss will think they aren't doing anything . :D
