switched neutral

I came across flourescent light today that was installed less than a month ago and the ballast stopped working. If the neutral is being switched instead of the hot, would that have something to do with the premature failure of the ballast?

I would not think so.

very unlikely but the nuetral being switched is a violation and a shock hazard

LOL...there is an arch spot weld on the frame of the light from whomever did the install...when we go back and replace the ballast we will be fixing the switched neutral.....

That is why i almost always use a hot stick first. Under wrong conditions this could have killed someone or hurt them from a fall. Never trust anything to be off.
