I only have enough work for 2 guys - like 35-40 hrs a week. I'd love to hire at least 2 -3 more - the work is just not out there. I get at least 1 call a week from someone asking for a job.

I just bid a job 2 weeks ago - 15 EC's bid on it. my bid was 67k and I was in the middle of the pack. I would have had to hussle big time to make money on the job. The low was 47K - that guy is going to write a check for the pleasure of busting his butt on that job cause it will cost him money. no way around that.

things seem to have leveled off but not gotten much better. Most of our work now is referrals, recurring customers, and a couple of GC's that have small remodels going.
I don't see anything getting better until maybe spring - if the banks start lending again.

Layed off the one guy I had working for me and got a bigger van. Doing alot more service work, and maintaining the good accounts I still have. I do higher-end resi remods. I've learned that working by myself is kinda nice, and I don't have to babysit at all. With the addition of more service work I find myself making just as much $$ too. So its been a learning experience.

I'm calling it. It's been a fairly nonpolitical discussion, which prompts me to thank all the participants for keeping themselves in check to the degree they have.

That said, we're not going to solve this problem here, and it is an electrical forum, not a socioeconomic forum.
