No connector for the garbage disposal, porch recept. not GFCI protected, no AFCI's, and of course, the outside service panel missing its cover because I needed it somewhere else. I also have an outlet that doesn't work due to an unknown break in the line, and the doorbell doesn't work because it's missing a transformer in the attic.

My wife keeps asking me if I know any good electricians that can come fix everything.

as a 2nd generation EC, i take great pride in my ability to totally disregard the NEC in my own home....i like to think that I make it an artform and have brought it up a level for others to emulate....

just as an example:

panel covers? where
jbox covers? who needs 'em
device covers? heck, they are just gonna be removed in a year when the room gets repainted.
proper breakers? what do we have in the shop that will fit?

i could go on and on, but you get the point....:D

Iwire wins!

The house I recently finished is 100% compliant. It passed inspection anyway.

I rebuilt the house I am living in now about 4 or 5 years ago. All new electrical, but..........

Pigtailed lamp holder for bathroom sconce.
Several missing cover plates (waiting to finish painting :) )
Only 1 ground rod.
Gas and water bond not accessible
Smokies removed (didn't have batteries)
No recessed shower trim...no trim at all.

I have three JB's in the crawl under our new addition that are not covered yet.

When we dug the footings I also dinged the conduit that contains the #4 NM feeder to my detached garage that has yet to be repaired. I know.....there are a plethora of violations in that sentence alone. All will be remedied in good time.

I have a total of 12 CCC's in a 3/4 EMT run from the panel in my meter doghouse up to the attic (10 12ga and 2 14ga), the 12's on 20amp and 14 on 15amp breakers. No derating. Also no MWBC's. :D Six circuits total.

Backfed 70 amp Homeline Main breaker with no holddown kit. Oh yeah, fed with #6 Cu for a distance of 2 feet from the old A-base meter socket. (Of course the drop in our riser for all 5 units appears to be #8 rubber covered)

I also have a Decora switch controlling my hardwired garbage disposall (oh, the humanity).

But my outside receptacles, as well as bath and kitchen are on GFCI's.

No arc faults anywhere.. :)

what do they mean by indicating type? And is this new for the '08?

It has to indicate if it's on or off.

A regular toggle switch has 'on' and 'off' on it so it is an indicating type. The decora has no indication and if mounted upside down you would not know it's state.

No not new, been in for many years, but I can certainly understand that in the case of a disposal it would go overlooked. I may have installed a decora or two on a disposal.

oh ok. I didn't think of that. I was thinking that maybe indicating meant it had to have a sticker or somethingn like that on it saying that it was a disconnect for the disposal. :)
