We have some scrap 8/3 UF-B, can we remove the jacket and use the wires as THHN?

Strip the sheath off, and let us know what you find stamped/writted on the insulation of the conductor....

Oh, and welcome to the forum! :)

Welcome to the forum.

I agree with 480 and Charlie,

Take a look at 310.11 for the marking requirements for conductors.

Chris

Type UF cable contains THWN conductors according to manufacturer literature, however as the others have said it is not marked as such and therefore cannot be used as individual conductors.

Do we know for sure that it's not marked on the individual conductors? People say this about MC cable all of the time but lately I've seen MC with marked conductors.

Me too. But i've yet to see a NM product individually marked. ................

have never seen mc stamped other than the clear plastic wrap around it.No marking then scrap it out.
So you use THHN for your tails inside the device boxes, or do you use little bits and scraps harvested from the MC or NM?

If you are wiring a basement ( no studs ) with nm and drop down to an

outlet in EMT, the use of a combo fitting is allowed ( 300.15 (F) . So in that

case the conductors in the nm have been stripped and seemingly compliant.

I'll say that agian, the nm has been stripped and the conductors are now in

the EMT and it's compliant.

Is this the new MC AP cable where the neutral is marked to indicate the cable armor is equipment grounding conductor path?

I guess that you're referring to MC-ap. No, this is standard MC cable with an insulated EGC and each conductor marked.

I wonder if the MC cable that has marked conductors is a result of a manufacturing error where they put the regular THHN/THWN stock into the machine mix, rather than the special unmarked stuff they use for making cable assmeblies.

After all, why would they waste money on marking conductors in a cable assembly when they don't need to?
