I ran regular romex 12 2 wire to my garage in PVC conduit. My town inspector told me I had to use UF wire. My electician friends disagree and tell me it should have passed. Can anyone tell me who is correct

Running NM underground even in conduit is a violation of 300.5(D)(5).

Conductors or cables underground must be listed for wet locations.

Of course.....but that is not what you said and if someone answered THHN on a test about wet location they would fail. :)

I hang my head in shame. I will also tear a small piece off my license now.

Thank You

Thank you for your replies. I have the 12 2 UF wire. I heard its hard to pull. I have 1 1/2 inch pvc. Someone told me to put vegitable oil on to help it along its way. What do you think:-?

As you should...:D

You did notice I had my 'wink' ;) on when I commented.

I know you know the difference between THWN and THHN.

Seriously though if I am ordering expensive copper and I need THWN you can bet I write THWN on the order. :)

Dan, they make pulling lubrication specifically for the purpose of ......"pulling wire". Try it, it is not that expensive.
