Wired A new ups today . The manual called for A shut tip breaker . What application would need A shut trip? Also called for a grounding electrode conductor , why would I need this if I puled and equipment grd.?

i assume Shunt Trip breaker? Where did it need the breaker? Ive turned up a couple lieberts that used one between the battery cabinet and the UPS.

Could be several situations such as an EPO, typically battery breakers are UV release.

Where did it reqquire the ST CB?
What size UPS?
True double concversion UPS?

As for ground electrode if this is a double coversion with a SDS you will need a GEC for the SDS (seperatly derived system)

90 amp Shunt trip breaker was required in the manual . For the feeder to ups. I installed non st cb, didnt see the need .

double convesion sds ?

Brian, I think I got you . GEC would be required if ups was feed directly off of trans. as sds.
The existence of a transformer is not the issue. The output of some UPS equipment is SDS and requires a grounding electrode.

In my opinion you have no choice, you must install the shunt trip breaker and connect it as the instructions show.

I agree, but I also wonder if the manual says the shunt trip needs to be connected to anything?? (Kind of a waste to have a shunt trip with no input signal.)

Is it possible the manufacturer (or whoever wrote the manual) thinks Article 645 applies to all UPS's?

The manual does not say where the st cb is to be connected. Also there are no termination points for a gec. The customer had a tech coming from Atlanta to start up and test today at 12 pm . I told him to give me a call if there are any problems . Havent heared anything yet.
