That's the same thing I was thinking. I have seen lights like this for years (less the brace). They used to be real popular at gas stations.

Snook lights (to attract the snook fish) are install in Florida minus the extra bracing .

Most likely failure I see is the vertical portion that is clamped possibly may decide to turn in high enough wind conditions.

The "brace" may not add significant enough amount of reinforcement to be worth while, but certainly isn't weakening anything because of it's own weight either.
