Welder Grounding

Output voltage of a welder can kill.
But has it and did it in this case?
So far we have had a couple of examples.
One third hand at least from a newspaper with no data to back it up.
And then an investigation report on what was declared as a fatal electrocution with some unknowns.
And no definitive conclusion given as to the cause the electrocution.

Can? Could? Has?

I don't know.

I don't have any doubts yes, it can and has happened.

To arrive at a simple explanation of that accident, assume enough current could flow and so, that possibility is eliminated. What then may be the cause of the accident?
Why would anyone ever assume that??????? As far as the cause, there is no where near enough information to even make a guess. Without the results of a real investigation, there is no answer as to the cause.

I meant listing of possible causes from similar cases thoroughly investigated.

Can't it help develop a preventive/predictive maintenance program?

We must realize that there are many occupations that are very dangerous, I believe Crab fishing is one of the highest in deaths and injury's, think about lumber jacks, any countless others that have a high rate of deaths and injury's, while it is admirable to wish we can make everything totally safe, it is just not possible to because not all workers work with safety one their mind and so many things that get them into trouble or killed, welding is no exception to this, using equipment that is not safe, or getting between the work and stinger by not paying attention it going to end with bad results, while from the side lines we can not determine what actually happened, one thing is for sure, the person doing the work did not follow the right safety methods to do the work in the most safe way by one simple thing we all can agree on:

The Result!!!

one thing that starts to come up short when we start trying to imply that doing work is safe is common sense. the more I work around new workers, I find less and less common sense, why? because these new workers in these trades think their world is so protected that they do not have to worry about safety as much as back in the old days.

We see this when home owners put to many loads on outlets, and they will even tell you "its protected" but when a breaker fails to trip and the home burns, they have no idea why because they thought in todays home this can not happen.

What a fine example of fatalism. But management found a clever way to combat it.They pasted caution posters, maintenance check list posters etc at prominent places in the work area. The result ? The accident rate dropped. The productivity improved.

Let me ask you a question.

Have you ever done any job that was dangerous?.

There are many who do just because someone has to, no one said life will be safe all the time, and we have come to accept this.

Being a soldier is a job that many are willing to sacrifice their life for us so we can be free, and I thank everyone of them.

Sorry,I am not able to see any relevance of above for this thread.

I read an article by Professor Heinz Wolff some years ago regarding accidents. He had found that angling (with a rod) had the most accidents per incidence of participation. By and large, not serious accidents. The scale was in the number of them.

No, I don't believe random guessing about the cause of an accident can help develop a preventive/predictive maintenance program.

What about the systematic guessing per post #64 for developing a preventive/predictive maintenance program?

Please control yourself and grasp what is stated in post # 75. :slaphead:
