Wet Romex Usable?

i have wired many high rise condo buildings where the installed and inspected nm cable gets soaked --sometimes for days and weeks since the building is not dried in! we have never had a problem due to corrosion. consider the nature of the moisture entering the nm cable -- this is solid wire and the rain water is basically pure water. when it evaporates it isn't leaving anything behind to damage the insulation or copper wire. if it did, it probably would lower the nm cable's resistance to ground. i have never found any damage or corrosive looking conductors during the trim out of these buildings. and we serviced many of these buildings for years afyer they were occupied!!!

now a flood is something completely different because the water isn't pure like rain water. my $.02!

there's no such thing as a fresh water tuna!!!

Aha! We can finally put this post to rest. We know where the threat to wet romex is from.....Salt water! Sorry, Charlie. Only the finest water is used for our Romex!

You guys must do something different than I do. When I rope a house, the ends of the romex (where the water can get in) are inside boxes. Like little shelters for the wire from the rain. I don't think there is much of a problem with the outer jacket getting wet. Just go around with a towel and dry them all off.

Ahh!!! Now I know why they like it better when I use them there boxes!!

with all that space in a 6 gang I would bet that is very nice enclosure should shed some water..must be able To protect romex from nasty waster..yet I thought electrons likes swimming in water..very little resistance to the movement..then they can take over the world..

Around here we put the boxes up with the opening facing outward. The box then has a top for the rain. How long you been doing this stuff?
