I think our good friend, Mr. Fire Alarm, should go on tour(possibly International) with the likes of Donald Trump, Tony Robbins and Ann Coulter as a motivational speaker.

This thread probably would have petered out around page #2 had post #16 never graced it.

Mr Fire Alarm deserves a round of applause.

:D

I was actually expecting to see him out with all the candidates running for president as a last minute candidate.

If the flood water eats copper should I replace all of my plumbing along with all of my wiring? because that certainly is going to fail and I will be in the same boat again.

Sell your house and move to California. That will solve your problem.

Nah, I'm expecting President Bush to get re-elected. It could happen.

I'm sure anything is possible under the right(or is it the wrong :-?) conditions....like NM being damaged by water

I recently (April) did alot of flood damage repair work in Westchester Cty.--you may have heard of the major flooding we had--we left new romex, but replaced old bx that was water damaged. We replaced any and all devices--this was ok with our inspectors--not sure what your AHJ would say!
Like I said, I have megged and replaced bad sections of wire from fires, and some of the wire has been wet from the fire hose. Replaced all devices, and passed by the AHJ.

But for some reason this practice has lost me my right to be called an "electrician".

Guess that makes me a wet wire hack or another of those certified dummies. :D

Want me to do an experiment?

Im thinking 20' of new romex in the pool.

1. both ends out of water.

2. both ends in water.

Pull them out and start opening the sheath. to see how much penetration is involved.

Suggested time frames?

Or...should I simulate a spray of water with a hose for a few minutes?

Any of y'all fish? Got any pictures of docks wired in Romex? I know where I fish there are dozens of docks wired with NM running right along the water line and been that way for years.
