I wonder if the customers are aware that the contractor is not licensed for the work that he is doing.

Here a customer will ask if you are licensed but few would know to ask for the type of license. Even if you told them the type you would have to give a real explanation before they would understand. To most a license is a license.

I don't want to make assumptions but it wouldn't take much to get a case of fraud going. The customer is probably going to deny that they know that a contractor is not properly licensed.

I even wonder if the contractor has considered this possibility. Probably nothing would ever happen until someone gets hurt or there is property damage and then everyone points fingers. A scape goat will be found.

If it is done maliciously there should be.

Or recklessly (hearsay).

Even if Local Electricain wants to get involved reporting his friend to authorities, this is clearly a MYOB scenario for anyone else here. The only info you have is from him. To file a report on his behalf would be beyond irresponsible.

Use your imagination and change the situation a bit. Put yourself on the recieving end of a serious complaint reported by someone with no actual knowledge of the facts.

In our haste to make the world right, it is often easy to be misguided.

I doubt if they would even come out. They have the address of the job so they would check to see if a permit has been pulled. When they see that a permit is pulled they can check the computer for all other information to include business license, bond and expiration date on the state license Most even have the name of insurance company and a copy of my errosion certification just in case there is ditch work. ( they have a photo copy on file everywhere I'm allowed to pull a permit).

Just like when a cop stops you and ask you to see license, registration and proof of insurane. If you show it to them they let you go and if you sing the safe auto song they get to hit you in the head with a rock.

No, they will get on the radio and verify it is still current, and run you through NCIC. If you don't have them, then it's just more charges if they really want to throw the book at you.

I wouldn't care, I play by the rules and expect others to do the same.

The complaint just starts the investigation, it is not a judgment.

The guilty party might straighten up just knowing he was being investigated, but regardless. I have very little tolerance for those breaking the rules.

My peace and love attitude went out in the 70's, wait, come to think of it, I never did get on that band wagon.

I don't think you are looking at a big enough picture Roger.

I think you should care about basics.

What if I made an anonymous phone call to your local police accusing you of some hideous crime based on what someone on a message board said. Would it make it alright simply because you were cleared of the alleged crime?

The difference is, if you read the complaint form you will notice that you must identify yourself. so you can not simply be an anonymous jokester filing complaints for fun or defamation of someones character.

Look, the bottom line is, I will not change my stance on this subject, if you run into something similar you can do as you please and I can understand why you may handle it differently than I would.
