When using a multiwire cable assembly, and following the requirements of article 200.7 C2, can the white wires be used as travelers from switch to switch?
Just remind him that at the other 3-way it is the feed to the switch and call it even.the traveler is now the return conductor to the switched outlet
The wording is deciveing as the wire from the switch to the outlet would be the supply wire and not a return. The return wire would not go to a switch in the first place as it is the grounded conductor of the circuit. and this would be a violation of 404.2(A)not as a return conductor from the switch to the switched outlet
I like that partwhen in fact it is just going from switch to switch.
Yeah, there's nothing against it. It's pretty clear the way I see it: "...is used for the supply to the switch but not as a return conductor from the switch to the switched outlet." If the conductor running from the switch to the outlet is not white, it's legal.Originally posted by johndeereman:

In a four way switch this is an impossibility. If the "single pole, 3-way, 4-way" reference was in regards to the travellers, they would have to delete "4-way" from this reference to make it mesh with the inspector's thinking. There is no fixed supply to a four way switch. The "white wire hot constantly" is in direct opposition to the wording of this code.Originally posted by johndeereman:

HuH! You were at our state IAEI meeting in Lafayette?By Sam: Hey Wayne, didn't see ya there.
mean that this is when the white conductor has to be reidentified?when I brought this to their attention they said that the white wire has to be hot constantly.
