Yeesh. Not me. I might be tempted to hold a plastic ruler next to the wire for a visual but the plastic calipers have a metal rod down their length. I can't picture many areas where I would gauge a live conductor with a caliper or gauge tool.Since they are plastic, one can do it hot without getting a shock or shorting stuff out.
i would probably buy the ~$6 stainless gauge disc and then manually cut 00 000 0000 in the area of the small gauge sizes. can easily be done using dremel. no batt to worry about and no conversion to worry about. to each their own.

Like this:
- All plastic material, suitable for jewelry and other valuable objects.
All plastic, except, of course, for the electronics .

Ooh, good one!
Isn't a no contact 'tic' tracer also all plastic except for the electronics?
The basic rule is that anything posted will get nit picked.
I am going to have to get some of this:
And a 1000 volt folding ruler.

My plastic vernier one has some kind of coat-hanger thick rod in a groove in the back for some stability purpose or something. My metal dial one is...metal.It's too cold to go look, but I am pretty sure the one I have has no metal.
Is it rechargeable?
That's different. Wonder how a wooden one stacks up?And a 1000 volt folding ruler.

you could essentially open it up all the way and nip off that rod. like Frank said, its there so that it can be used as a depth gauge. My plastic vernier one has some kind of coat-hanger thick rod in a groove in the back for some stability purpose or something. My metal dial one is...metal.
