Wiring between strapping

Lazy hacks.. People screw things into their sheetrock and expect to be able to go in a ways without hitting a wire. Those of us in the trade expect 1 1/4" inch or something reasonable.

Peter,
That is a good photo, very clear.

That 'looks' like a violation,
but if the AHJ approves it, I could live with it.

I'd be the first to say I've certainly seen really dangerous ones.

I guesss one could say it isn't an 1 1/4" from framing but the idea is to keep nails from it. If the furring (strapping) were attached to a blockwall then you could run the cable on the outside of the block and keep it an 1 1/4" of the strapping and it would be legal.

Yeah, you're right. Better drop a nuke on New England because 99% of homes here are wired that way.

The "bottom" cable is a little close, but I think it's compliant. I didn't measure it. And it did pass inspection, but granted the inspector didn't look at much. Good thing because I'm a lazy hack according to wawireguy. :D

That's not a violation if the MC cable is 1.25" from the edge of the framing member.

FWIW, this thread is 5 years old.
Hah, I didn't even see the year. Guess the 3 looks like an 8 if you're not paying attention. I saw 11 (November) and thought it was a month old...

Anyways, here's the pic I was talking about from that site:

Based on the blue insulated staples, which is what we use here, that is a New England installation. Furthermore, the strapping is another giveaway.

Since you've re-opened this post...I have a comment.

The picture looks like they used 2x4's for the strapping.
In that case, I believe that it would be OK.

Y'all may have better drywallers in your area than we do here. I couldn't trust the drywallers we have here in NC. I can tell them 10 times not to nail in a certain area and all I get is "Ce" and they continue happily nailing away as if I said nothing.
