Wondering other thoughts on estimator xmas bonus. I know it's just that and I'm always grateful for whatever I get but is your opinion that is should be based, at least to a degree, the profit of the jobs the estimator bid? I had not deal or agreement upon hire regarding this. I know PM also plays a role in the job outcome. I had a pretty good year and closed about $$23M in work and the jobs made about 25% profit withe one $2.3M job making about 50%.

As a municipal employee, I get Christmas Day off with pay. Used to get a $25 gift certificate but that went goodbye about 20 years ago. After 36 years of employment, thankful to get my paycheck. Luckily government shut down does not impact me.

IMHO employers should be as grateful for having employees as employees should be grateful for having a job.

Don't get offended if you don't get a Christmas bonus, but maybe be more inclined to go someplace that does give them reliably.

It is kind of like loyalty. If you are in a place where you see the employer goes beyond the letter of the contract to take care of employees, then you are in a good place and should be more inclined to support the employer beyond the letter of the contract. But plenty of places will lean heavily on 'loyalty' only in one direction.

When I started back in 1970 depending on how many years you had with the company but they gave a minimum of $50 check where they paid the taxes. Employees with 25 years or more received $150 which was a lot back then. They also had a paid extended lunch with best catered food. Next place only gave us a frozen turkey. My best customer always invited me to their great Christmas party at a restaurant with open bar ( never drank on his dime ). A couple of record profit years he gave every worker a nice bonus and a savings bond for their children , mine & his accountant. Because that customer treated me so good & paid bills fast I went way out of my way for him. Even came back from the shore a day early when he had a problem.

Ok, so what if someone made their owners $7M in profit for the year....that's after overhead etc.? Total employees in field and office are 50.

Not really Xmas bonus related, but got me thinking about paying back those who answer my questions on here. I don't ask a lot of questions, but I decided early on that for each response to a question I posted, I would try to answer at least that many questions for others plus one. So, I got 3 responses to my request for a photo and gave 4 responses to others questions to keep it fair. Just a thought.

Good point and I'm a form believer in giving back. I've ask about that on here before..donations etc. I did reach out to Mike Holt about a donation and he gave me a charity he was a supporter of and I have since donated.

The frozen turkey brought back memories. Every Christmas we got a gift card to Stop & Shop for I think $25 for a frozen turkey. This was back around 1775.
