40A or 50A Circuit

In spec houses and apartments I always install a 40 amp circuit as this will cover most ranges. In custom houses I always ask about the appliances, heat and air conditioner unless that information is provided with the specs. Should there be a conflict at finial then someone is coming off with more money of live with what they got. [/FONT]

I am not arguing if the table applies but don't understand some peoples' math using table 220.55 with note #1 on a 12.5 KW load

from note # 1 Table 220.55

12.5 KW - 12 KW = .5 KW
5% x .5 KW = .025 KW

8KW + .025 KW = 8.025 KW = 8025 W

8025 KW / 240 V = 33.4375 Amps

If you use the major fraction concept: ie round .5 KW up to 1 KW

5% x 1 KW = .05 KW
8 KW + .05 KW = 8.05 KW
8.05 KW / 240 V = 33.5416 Amps

Oops, I reread note #1. 8KW x 1.05 = 8400 KW is correct. My bad.
