Nowhere in the NEC is it limited by amps.

EMT is allowed as an EGC per 250.118.

Of course not, it will never work.

No Bob i did not say that.It might and then again it just might not.All we need is 1 set screw that wasnt tightened or conduit that got hit and came apart. Then we have something worse than no ground at all.

All we need is 1 wire-nut that wasn't tightened or wago that got hit and came apart. Then we have something worse than no ground at all.

Ahhhh but in Jim's case you still have the EMT for the ground.

Jim, consider this, a properly installed metallic conduit recognized in 250.118 is a better EGC than a properly installed insulated conductor.

What is the common denominator in that statement?

But if the same installer did both, how would you guarantee either ones quality?

As I said the last time this issue came up, we always splice with 100% accuracy but we somehow forget to make sure our raceways are mechanically sound. ;)

I was taking NM jobs, are your suggesting we should always run redundant grounds?

By the way, run an EGC, don't run an EGC I really don't care. :)

Sometimes I do, sometimes I do not, depends on many things.

What I try to do is get people to think about the reasons why they do the things they do.

Don't just do things because you have always done them, or that was 'how I was taught', or someone said it was better, ask yourself why.

That's why you bring in a third party and pull another ground wire just to be safe.

But Peter, if the conduit is not mechanically sound, what's protecting the EGC inside of it? ;)

Can we also require tests, send emails and have meetings about the grounding for each circuit? :D

This reminds me of security when working inside a Casino.
They send a guard to watch you and another guard to watch him and all the while all of you are being watched on camera.:)
