Where's the fun in that? Multiple voltages and connection arrangements simply adds to the variety of life.

100V is odd, two different frequencies is bizarre I can only guess that was a result of the American occupation after WW II.

Comes from long before that- Tokyo started AC with German equipment, Osaka with US equipment, no one a hundred years ago expected the two cities to connect, nor really for the electrified areas to spread across the country. Same in the US- LA was 50Hz into the late 1940s.
