A receptacle. Isn't that the topic? Why what? What do you mean 'our air fryer have to be within 24 inches"? Within 24 inches of what? The coffee pot? The sink? The fridge? The cat?

Exactly!
The problem is when the AHJ or inspector refuses to listen and stands by his claim unsubstantiated. You have this case that wound up wasting the time of contractor. In other cases you have a contractor giving in to these frivolous claims in order to save time and piss off the inspector. I think most contractors are afraid of questioning a inspector as the inspector usually represents unlimited power.
In my state, the of interpretation of the electrical code is reserved to the department designated in the applicable state administrative code. If there is a disagreement, contact the state and they will make a determination. That's the way it works here. FWIW.
It doesn't have to get ugly if you're not a jerk about it.Ok so you bark up the tree so to speak and win. You are vindicate. What happens next time. You think an inspector that makes you go that far is going to be the nice guy. He is going to make timely inspections.
It's nice to be right but when the guy refuses to back down it gonna get ugly.

I have been down that road and trust me, it is going to get ugly if you push it too far with the inspector. Better get a third party inspection from now on lmao
Guess not but your sarcasm deserves a round of applauseOffice space. Define it. If it is for a commercial purpose, 6-12 does not enter the equation. Zoning codes may.
If the original intended use is a residential garage, that is what it is. No further discussion, finished with sheetrock, recessed lighting and A/C, doesn't matter.
My garage is finished. Heated. Pretty nice, and occasionally I sit there in the pickup with laptop going, finishing up paperwork. Does that make it an office?
From some reading I have done, some places the inspector is a third party, and there are multiple inspectors to choose from, you basically contract them instead of letting AHJ choose who will be doing the inspecting. Seems to me there can be guys that get to be friends with whoever will let them do things the way they want, so not so sure this is a great concept overall. What is this 3rd party and how does it work?

As of the 1st of this year You are required to install 1 outlet per car space and also 1 inch conduit to a panel with 2 pole breaker space for future car charging.
Nothing in a CA version of the 2014 NEC refers to the 6-12 rule.
Thank you for that, sir!It is a pretty old rule here. Guessing late 1950s or 1960. I know it was around in the 1970s.
The exact basis for the distances is probably just a convenient/random distance that someone proposed and was adopted.
I am nice about these sort of things, I have had jurisdiction take retribution on other jobs. Like Japanese inspection. Get a call " hey we can't make it right now."
Or make up new code violations the do not exist.

..Are we to put in additional cooking electrical in a garage because some day it may be used as a illegal rental. Or..... maybe additional 220v circuits in the spare bedroom because we all know a spare bedroom becomes a grow room. Come on there is no place for what if's. If it is not in the code it is not required. ..This inspector would be run out of town if he insisted on such foolery.
