No. The NEC needs to stop pandering to GFCI/AFCI manufacturers who want to sell more product where it isn't needed.The equipment is tested and listed to the product standard. With hard wired appliances the listing did not care about leakage current that trips GFCIs, because they correctly assumed that the EGC eliminates the safety hazard from leakage current from a hard wired appliance. Those standard have to be changed to work with the expanded protection requirements in the NEC.
