Another grounding question

That's because I did not realize that there was an equipment ground in the UF cable. If there was'nt then some means must be found to prevent electrocution in case the hot wire touches the box. You see if there was no equipment ground then there would not be objectionable current because all the current would flow back through a grounded neutral.

The problem is that some of the current flowing through the ungrounded conductor is flowing back to the source neutral bar on a pathway other than the grounded conductor.

During a shock, that is.

If you step back and look at how this thread has progressed, might you surmise that such knowledge would be a prerequisite to extending an electrician advice on how to troubleshoot his problem?

I'm going to close this. If the original poster needs more help, feel free to start a new thread.

Suffice it to say, the answer was given early on in the thread: there a current carrying conductor in contact with the normally non-current-carrying components of this system. That problem needs to be found and fixed, before it gets worse.
