The recent discussions about cords being bent behind beds brings this up. Why not a simple little rule and the receptacle Mfgs help in making duplex recessed receptacles required. Like the old kitchen Cat tail sweeping, eyes rolling clock got plugged into.

It is why my bed for the last 20 years has never covered the outlets.
;)

You got a crystal ball that tells you where furniture is going to be pressed against a wall? Try using clock-hanger receps.

i dont think its a problem of the receptacles not being recessed, its older builders placing once receptacle in the center of the wall. Every newer house i have been in doesnt have one behind the bed, it has one on either side of it. Furthermore recessed receptacles cant accomodate cell phone chargers and such.

I didn't know builders where doing electrical roughs. Although the print may show one receptacle in the middle of the wall, the wall space (per code) will dictate where the receptacle goes. Many smaller rooms will have less receptacle outlets---possibly having a receptacle center of the wall--unless otherwise requested, and paid for.

The last place i charge my cell phone is in the bedroom.

I have had the same business number for 5 years and I still get those 2 am calls is Juanita there. Smart ass answer "theese ees her father".

I see new houses here with the receptacles dead center in the bedrooms. Cheap contractors say 6 foot from that wall and 6 from the other makes the NEC rule apply. I put one 3 foot from one corner and 3 from other on the same 12 foot wall.

Unfortunately I never live in what I wire.

I don't see any builders (or HO's) paying for recessed receptacles--for the reason you state.

Although you can pinpoint where beds are going to be placed in most bedroom spaces, I don't see people paying for recessed receptacle outlets.

We install them for wall-mounted flat screen tv's (Free to our customers), but don't see them being requested, or "pitched" as an idea for typical wall receptacle outlets.

In the near future, home furniture mfrs will pick up from office furniture trends. You can see where this leads. Each desk, bed and dresser will have some kind of power and telecom distribution system. Eventually this will efect the Code. It will be illegal to install a toilet in a public space without WiFi.

Since all the new codes I never put rec in the middle of the wall.
If you wire according to code each rec usually winds up in the middle of the wall. But the way I lay out a room rec are on each side which causes us to use more than needed.
I suggest they only make cords that the plugs are side ways and end up flat when plugged in.
Everyone has an opinion. Most of all people need to use there head.

How about if the make the CORDS with molded ends? They would sit flat against the wall.

We wouldn't have to have a code change, wouldn't have to install bigger boxes to accomodate the recessed receptacle. Our life made easier!!!

As far as spacing the plugs, who says the bed, or anything is going to be put on the center of a wall? If it's a spec house, space to the code.
