I thought this slow down was part of the credit crunch. Lenders are tightening their belts.

Accepting credit cards might help out. Has anyone opened a Pay Pal account?

Any of you guys sell gift cards?

I think 08,09 are going to be terrible for the residential industry.I remember Mike Holt talking about every 6 years the markets turns.
We take visa and mc. It is expensive, but if it means getting paid now, or the difference between making a sale or not making it, it is worth it. I haven't done gift cards, not sure how to market something like that. It might work well though if you can figure a way to get it out there. e/m.

Here's another question that would not have required asking had the member listed their location in their profile ! I thought someone had posted nicely a week or so back that every member should update their profile by adding their location so that other members living in the same region could identify with any pertinent code questions specific to their area of jurisdiction . :-?

Come on ya'll , get with it, please :D

Carl :)

but then you'd have nothing to get incensed about...just doing my part boss:D

emahler,
You don't hav'ta give your home address ... Just list your state of residence .
That's not asking too much . ( I figured I'd better edit & add the "of residence" in order to prevent you from listing another state that you may be in ie..drunken or mentally challenged ... Just joking with you ).

I have seen gift cards just written $50.00 then spelled out Fifty Dollars and 00/100. Very simple. It's not Rocket Science. I am sure you can advertise it with a little effort websites, door hangers ect. Just thoughts.

I am going back and forth between the forum and a couple of other things here on my computer, and every time I come back to the forum I have to log back in. Can we get Mike Holt to increase the sleep time, or is there an option in my profile where I can increase the dormancy time myself? Anyone know about this? e/m

George S told us last week to go to the 'Quick Links' (to the left of the 'Log Out') and select the 'Who's Online'. It will refresh every 2 minutes and keep you logged on while your browsing in another opened window (screen).

He said thats what he does to take a bathroom or snack break .

I never log in. When I logged in (a long time ago) there was an option somewhere that I clicked that allowed a cookie (or something like that) so I would automatically be logged in every time I visit the site.

I did the paypal thing last summer. It was $20.00/Month plus small % then and shortly thereafter they raised it to $30.00. I have the basic, no frills account. I input the charges when I get home at night. I also leave most of the $ in paypal and I got one of their debit cards at no cost. Comes in handy when I'm in the boonies and need some material. I don't have to always have a company check on me.

I think I picked up some business because of it. Makes it real easy to sell "while I'm here" type extras, also. I really didn't do much marketing in '07 so I'm going to give it this year before I decide if I am going to keep it or not.

When you log in make sure the "remember me" box is checked.

The only good things about business quieting down are:

Small supplier statements
Quality time in the office
Time for long-term projects

any of you guys remember how business was in 1992??? housing was dead and commercial was in a nose dive! our economy has been running on fumes for over a year. the housing market is basically dead. builders have large inventories of new homes -- no buyers. people can't sell the home there living in, which prevents them from upgrading to newer or larger homes. lower income families can't qualify for loans as easy as they were allowing them a year ago. it becomes a domino effect. states that have become dependent on revenues from the housing industries are suffering. fuel costs have a small effect on what we are seeing in construction as far as "the work picture". fuel costs is responsible for shrinking our dollar at every purchase we make and with our building industry struggling we cant increase wages to compensate for the shrinking dollar... as in 1992 i expect things to stay this way until we get a new administration operational and the american people gain their trust...

It's not quite that bad. It's true that new construction is taking a beating...no doubt about it. But existing homes are still selling. They are just on the market longer and sellers are not getting their outrageous asking prices of 3-4 years ago.

As bad as the foreclosures are, it will allow a lot of people to buy a home cheaply, and will also be a boon to the "flip" market and for builders and remodelers to cash in on cheap property to fix up and sell (which is good for us).

This market is perfect for people like me who are looking to buy their first home.

And from all the news I'm hearing, the commercial market is still very strong, at least in my area.

Same in my area as for the commercial industry ... there are still alot of businesses going up or expanding.
