A lot less, that is why the manufacturing jobs that didn't move out of the country moved to the Carolinas.

Actually wages were not the reason, there was a docu on the move of the banking business from the east coast to NC and the main reason was unfrendly treatment of business, not the wage rates, it appears NC lawmakers are a lot smarter, and understand to have jobs, you need to work with business and industry.

Jersey is a good example of a non friendly enviroment, they had lawmakers that said, hit them with high taxes, and planties, what are they going to do move, the will pay up, Well looks like they all decided to move, and now we are trying to raise road tolls to pay for the state losses, looks like our lawmakers will never learn.

I'd say that's a good thing. We have to wake up in this Country. It's a world economy and we are competing with the world.
Yes, and I think the economy will continue to become more globalized in the coming years. If we insist that other countries pass and enforce labor and environmental laws, similar to those we have here, then I think the globalization is a good thing, else, it will drive wages down to near zero in this country and elsewhere. JMHO. e/m

Clearly it is time to move into commercial. But I am sort of scared of taking a big hit on the first job, from lack of experience. Any advice?? e/m

yes - do not do any work for the huge GC 's in the area - they will put you under in a second
break into commercail in the service sector and small tenant fit out
doing base build and whole buildings will bankrupt you unless you have a very big reserve of cash to commit to payroll - a few years worth

That I certainly don't have. Do you have any experience working for tenant fit outs for malls? I get these ITB's for a lot of projects that are going on in our local mall (Annaplis/Westfield). Some of them are pretty small (500 to 1500 sq. ft.). The GC's are almost all out of staters. e/m
