Which brings me to one more question, is well pump cable even listed for anywhere but a well casing?

what we commonly see as "well pump cable" is the type only listed for installing in the well, but as noted in the link there are various types.

Yep, the best part is once they enter the dwelling, it's usually exposed until it reaches the pump control box, I've seen them run for 30' or more exposed... Somehow, this isn't an issue, yet a receptacle i roughed in a closet is... Stuff that makes the world go round.
