I don't know why you would say that. If you draw 40A through two 30A sets of contacts in series, both sets see the entire 40A.

Here's what Siemens has to say on the topic:

So per the above, if the contactor 30A rating is a thermal limit, and the make/break limit is over 40A, you could wire the two poles in parallel, not series, to increase the thermal limit. Series wiring is to increase the voltage limit or handle DC.

Yeah I think that idea works sometimes for voltage, but not amperage. In any case it’s a distraction here.
