Daisychaining 2x4 lighting fixtures

Does anyone see a violation in daisychaining 2x4 lay in fixtures using duplex connectors with MC cable? this has become a heated topic on the job.

Done all the time here and lots of other places I've worked.
Very few jobs I've been on were spec'd to box & whip.

The usual "issue" here is the support of the cable....no issues on using duplex conns.

I don't see any difference here for securing or supporting.

As long as the MC is not laying on the grid. those caddy wire clips work well.

Don't you have two ceiling wires connected to the fixture that you can batwing too?

Also, the fixture is not being used as a raceway in this instance, only as a junction box.

I've seen it spec'd whip for each light a few times but usually a small office with only 2 or 3 lights. Daisy chains are the norm.

An interesing point. If the wires come out of the same hole it's completely different than wires coming out of two holes. There's really no difference inside the enclosure.

I say it is perfectly fine I normally try to get the permanant lighting all daisy chained out asap and put temp cages on for temp lighting when the ceiling is finished and the fixtures are in. I hate wasting romex on temp light stringers although sometimes I have to do this against my will. Total waste of time and money in my opinion. Although the cable should be propperly supported, yet others say it is using the fixture as a raceway as George pointed out it is not.

typically the em are night lights (and along with exits) are fed by a separate MC (and often on a sep circuit)
