... but it's not "terrible" to wire a house "by code" when cost of installation is a priority.
I agree. I don't have much practice wring the code-minimum house, so I really don't know how to pull that off. Having said that, I wouldn't feel I did a terrible job if I did wire the code minimum house.

I often run a 15a MWBC for these two appliances and I will then feed under cabinet or decorative lighting off the disposle circuit.

Just do the math. Dishwashers can vary alot. the one in my house uses 10.5 amps and Ive seen ones that only use 5.
I know. I was tickled by the fellow that said he only does high end work, but he combines the DW and the GD. I might have misunderstood. I know I've wired for resi dishwashers that needed nearly the whole 20A circuit. Maybe Thermador? I think that's one brand that needs a 20A of its own.

This reminds me of the ginger and mary ann controversy.
Mary Ann, definitely. :)

On a talk-radio show years ago, Russell Johnson (the professor), said that Dawn Wells (Mary Ann) got hundreds of times as much fan mail as Tina Louise (Ginger).

All I know is that Gilligan lived in/around Bluefield, West Virginia, and me and a former boss fished in a pond at his house. We didn't even know it was his house. We just rang the bell to see if we could fish there, and he came to the door. Nice guy. I think he's dead now.

Not on my jobs. Loads of MWBC's

Got to if its on the same yoke!
Around here its usually a duplex recept with the tab broken off.
I have seen where people bring the romex out of the wall and connect it directly to the appliance.
