Do you put the stickers on?

On a kitchen remodel final the other day the inspector said "I usually want the GFCI stickers on the load side receptacles". I just kind groaned a little "uh huh" and that was about it. Signed and done. Didn't even press a test button on a gfci but he is worried about the stickers. :roll:

yuck stickers on outlets. not unless i have to .


but you made me think of a good idea, we make coverplates with circuit numbers already on them.

sell them in packs from 1-42 like the number books.

of coarse noone will ever have the number they need and have to buy a whole new pack.

Many places will red tag you if no stickers.The gfci comes with stickers and instructions to install them.Failing to do so is a misuse of the UL listed device.I too find them ugly but your asking for a service call if there not on it and it trips.I always let the customer know why i put them on and it's up to them if they want to remove.
One problem i have had happen far too often is the painters remove covers then put wrong ones back on or cleaning crew wipes them off.

Where does it say that you must use the stickers? Regarding the OP it is not a requirement of the NEC and I've never seen it in the instructions that come with the GFCI device that say it is required.

I would like to know how it possibly would increase the level of safety.

Are we to believe the lack of a GFCI protected sticker will stop a homeowner from using an outlet that the NEC requires GFCI protection for?

it might save the home owner a service call if the gfci trips. he will look for a gfci before he calles an electrician. I have been on those calls. but i still dont put on the ugly stickers.

We never use them either. The point is that the outlet or circuit is GFCI protected or not. Although the point about the HO looking for a tripped device makes sense. We still wouldn't use them since they're ugly.

Yes but that is not a safety issue and safety issues are supposed to be what the NEC and UL deal with. :)

Next time i get one i will check what it actually says.Bottom line is you fail here for no stickers and i wont fight them over something this small

if it were me, I would put the stickers on, appease the inspector.

then tell the home owner, that windex is a great cleaner, and what they do after i leave is not my business. :p

or could it be you just have a lazy inspector, who thinks by seeing the stickers he does not have to check them?

Probably. As I said he didn't even test the giffys anyway.

I am not working to appease inspectors. Particularly when I know more than them in many cases. :D

If I put the stickers on in this guy's kitchen I would probably not be paid. This job was for captain anal retentive man! Post it notes everywhere for me, painter, plumber etc. I wish I had my camera for that.

By the way this inspector was a good guy. Sure he didn't actually inspect and he did let something "slide" ;) that some would not. His reasoning for letting it slide was bogus however.

This type of comment is not constructive at all. This forum, IMHO is for helping eachother learn and grow. Not for boosting ones own ego by putting others down.
