Re: Do you put the stickers on?

Jim I know of a relitivley new inspector in pasco county that picks up all the extras he finds. He was in the field as long as I know him and that`s been since the mid 80`s.He keeps them so he doesn`t have to have a tagged call added to his alredy ridiculous work load :D

Yes.

One is never NEC required and the other is sometimes NEC required.
How do you figure? A downstream 3 wire receptacle served by an upstream GFCI for a 2 wire receplacement that has no ground requires both stickers.

Re: Do you put the stickers on?

I have found that the stickers will come off so I use a Sharppie and write it on the wall above the receptacle in large bold letters like this.

Re: Do you put the stickers on?

Mike you are correct with the break down that is why there are always 15 ,20 calls rolled each day by each inspector .Card signers is a good way of describing the job title.Around mid December we had the usual year end push to close out that year. One of my usual inspectors was out sick for 4,5 days and his calls were given to others to do,
Well they were behind themselves so theses went to the back of the pile.We were pumping out 8 to 10 trims a week in one subdivision and we were online scheduled 4 5 some 6 days prior. My nextel went dead twice that week. What are we to do  The head honcho of this major builder got on the horn and with 2 hours my nextel goes off with Chief insp as the name .he asked me to meet him in this sub division in 15 min.
We walked 19 finals in less than2 hours. Most were side by side they had been walked already by myself but we busted out 19 finals and 6 roughs in less than 2 3/4 hours. Now this is the cheif E I of the county so you know somebodies feathers got ruffled. The jobs were tight and yeah mostly he did a quick walk and sign off.
It`s so bad that outside agencies are being hired to hold on with what is going on.I counted 9 new subdivisions within a 25 mile sq. area.
One is its own city.1000`s upon 1000`s of homes a mall,hospital,3 levels of pblic schooling and there is no end in cite.
Why does the job for electrical inspector stay in the paper week after week.Yhe pay rate !!
A level 1 inspector starts at around $13.95/hr and tops out as a level 4 at around $17.75.I`ve been asked many times to come down.I`d be walked through the system. For what a big cut in pay
I can`t keep up nowdays but we have a whole flock of piece workers some doing a house/day to rough and a couple of piece crews that can bang out 3 1950`s/day.These guys are up their $$ wise why take a job that pays 24 to 35 K /year when thsy can bust out 50 to 75K/year.
I`m to old to go back to piece work.I`m happy in my upper 50`s range + a vehicle 24/7.i haven`t bought gas since 2000,my personal truck sat and the battery died from no use.I have my 401k and never get pushed. So where am I going to go ??????

Re: Do you put the stickers on?

Ok I'll threadjack my own thread, Florida sucks. :D Stick that on something!

Re: Do you put the stickers on?

I cannot believe what I am reading, final inspections with no meter, HOW?, 19 finals and 6 roughs in less than 3 hours, and that was the chief electrical inspector, he sounds tough, he could of done that over the phone and mailed you the stickers, what a joke!!

Re: Do you put the stickers on?

MPD, I agree, it is a joke. I guess the only thing they can check in a "Drive By" inspection is GFCI stickers on receptacles. ;)

Re: Do you put the stickers on?

I find that those stickers are not of very good quality anyhow. They almost have a designed lifespan, which is very short. It seems that the manufacturer's don't even take the stickers seriously, but include them "just because".

Re: Do you put the stickers on?

I have gone through this for years and still can`t believe there has been nothing set up to get power to a house before it is allowed to be lived in.
The insps. don`t care if everything works or not. That`s the EC`s problem.Believe me I have been involved in enough situations where the home owners are moving in and the meter was set an hour before.Sure there is a generator but how many can a company supply and stay alive 1/ truck 180 on the road.Changing from rough to trim units overnight.we just deal with the crappy builders (there I said it)and a word of wisdom it is a beautiful place to live just buy land and pull your own permits and get what you want for alot less $$$$Average 1,900 sq ft on a plot of land where you hear your neighbors groan at night is going for 190 >240,G`s.Or find a 3 acre plot for 50 G`s build that same home but nicer for 125 G`s and be better off in the end.
I just finished a project like this and it turned out sweet. ;)

Re: Do you put the stickers on?

3 acres for 50 thousand ? Where is it i am on my way.My 1/2 acre here in Land o Lakes is worth over 50 if you could even find a lot for sale

Re: Do you put the stickers on?

Look over the hernando line or right south of it I know of 10 acres at 10k/ I found out today 1/3 is to hilly do much with but look at.But at that price, get a variance for 4 2.5`s amd a central access road and all 4 can build and still have the rest to at least look at.
So Jim 15 miles north but you have to look to find them simce they are still there.Alot are on what is now back roads limerock but soon will be paved. That`s what I bought land people said no way am I going to wash my truck very day and now all paved,ok it was 5,000 per parcel but worth every nickle of it.I work with a guy that has 30 acres all pasture clean as can be and for 1/2 a mil he`d sit on his land at the swannee and be done with it.He already green treed it so taxes would be up there.

Re: Do you put the stickers on?

15 more miles ,i dont think so.Already 25 minutes from down town Tampa.I bought this place for cash 6 years ago and its now worth 3 to 4 times what i paid. But it would be good investment even if north of 52.They are growing fast.

Re: Do you put the stickers on?

I thought this was an electrical code forum not a real estate forum, but from what I am reading about the inspections, who cares anyway!

Re: Do you put the stickers on?

So we have four pages and not one post with facts to back it up shows that the stickers are required.

Re: Do you put the stickers on?

No not nec required. But at least here it is required by the ahj.One of the unwritten rules.Maybe we should challenge them on it.
