So how would one know to order support bars with these?
Because that is SOP for an architectural down light like this.
Now my vendor is sticking me with an extra charge to supply them and there's a lot.
Do you think they should've come with the fixture? THere's some info under "rough-in frame" section but I'm not clear on it.

They don’t come with the fixture; you have to specify that it in the RFQ. For example if I needed 100 of these, I’d put “(100)x Type D fixture with adjustable hangers”. You don’t necessarily need to know the exact part number, because your quote request will go from your vendor to the line rep who should know exactly what you’re looking for and save you the time of hunting down sku’s. If they don’t, they’ll contact you to clarify.
Going forward, you’ll always want to check the cut sheets on the specified fixtures when you are bidding a job to have an understanding of what is included. For an ACT ceiling you would specify the 24” C-Channel hangers. For framing with gyp board most manufacturers offer a telescoping hanger that adjusts from 16” framing to 24” framing, and if they don’t there will likely be a competitive product that works on that fixture; or you can go with the conduit hanging method. They’re pretty much all the same in that the adjustable hanger will have a stud that bolts in place of the C-Channel bracket using a wing nut.
My preference is always going to be paying for the manufacturer’s optional hanger to save as many labor hours as possible being it’s the most limited resource we have.
