Re: Econmics vs workmanship

The trick getting a stranded wire to twist on a solid one is to bend a little bend in the end of the solid wire and then wrap the solid with the stranded the bend in the solid wire catches in the wire nut and some times you have to cut the wires to get them loose. The trick with 2 or more stranded wires or those little bitty solid wires like what you find in a flourescent light fixture is to twist the wires with your kliens and then bend the end over so that it forms a head. Put a tan ideal wire nut or a yellow GB on it tight and they are real hard to get back off. As you can see I am a twister too. And if you do it long enough you get to the point that you can roll your pliers around in one hand, there by making twisting

making twisting the wires a one hand operation.
Also, any of you's seen those real fat purple wire nuts? If I have 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 or maybe even 6 pieces of #14 I might strip 2 or 3 inches of insulation and twist all those jokers together and then cut it down to being maybe an inch long there by making it fit in a purple wire nut.
It takes time but i was taught that if the building falls down the wireing should hold together.
