The combined Z of the fault loop must open a breaker before any organic harm can take place to the human body.
hmmm, so plz correct me on this MBrooke.....the more 'Z' avenues are let to divide.....the less total magnitude said fault loop realizes?

Yes, parellel paths lower the resisitve component be they on the hot, ground or both sides. But in any case its best to assume that no parellel paths exist (beyond intentionally paralleled conductors) to take worse case into account.
