about 4kv... Cattle Prod when I was about 14. I was at a friands house sitting on the couch watchin TV when her brother comes out and Zap!

In the trade, 230v about a year ago. Quality control in the asian markets isn't quite what it is on installs around here!

Oh yeah, I remember the goooooood times we had as kids with Cattle Prod's.
I've been hit with a Cattle Prod at least 30 times. My buddies growing
up, were true saints. I still love em dearly!:D

And these were your friends?

Oh yes. In the summer of 83 my buddies and I found a cattle prod
in a field,it was called a "Hot-Shot" cattle prod. That torture device in
the hands of five adolescent males was like unleashing pure evil.
For the entire summer, someone daily would fall victim to the "Hot-Shot."

Boys will be Boys! :D

120V too many times

90V (Ring voltage) many times as a kid

Then there is always that perceived "tendon bind" zap waiting to strike... Tough to get the brain to overcome this one. I've involuntarily thrown a couple tools experiencing it.

As a kid:
9v battery on the tongue, once.
90v battery in a portable tube radio battery, once.
Spark-plug wires, a couple of times.
Phone ringing while playing with the wires, once.
120v helping dad replace a switch, once.
Static shocks, way too many to count.

As an alectrician:
15Kv from a neon transformer while on a 30' aluminum ladder near the top of a 2-story building, once.
277v, never.
240v (line-to-line, Bob ), once.
120v, maybe 4 or 5 times.

So, I guess the answer is 7.5Kv (center-tap grounded, Bob. :D)
As a kid poped by electric fence several times(hard headed learner).
hit 480 phase to phase ONCE, didn't need to do that again.
120 to several times.

Man I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one that gets that tendon snap thing!! Is that what it is? I've never figured it out. But it startles the hell out of me when it happens. Seems like once a week I get it!! :)

I'm guessing it's the tendons doing it. It will happen to me after a few really intense days working with my hands, trimming out a large house etc.

Funny how murphys law usually dictates that it happens during an "overcaffinated" stressfull day, the exact same moment the kid jumps off the bed upstairs or the door slams or just as the passing car outside reflects a bright beam of sunlight thru the window.

That'll make ya jump.

Fresh out of school and knew it all:cool: I was running emt into a control panel for a 100hp planer 480V. Of course the panel was still energized I was kneeling down left hand on the stick of emt my right hand trying to get the locknut started and wham wham wham! Yes seemed like forever talking to myself my life flashing in front of me my helmet flew off along with my safety glasses. All I can figure is my body weight pulled me off since I was knelt down leaning backwards.
After I got off of course everything was spinning felt as though I was about to pass out then as that passed I realized my right hand was split open in 4 places burnt. Lets just say I still have limited feeling in my right hand and it is a constant reminder to this day which is many years later.

Here was what happened my right hand I found later fell across the primary side of a control transformer 480v my left hand was grasping the emt so I would say the wounds on my right hand were due to 480v but I felt 277 through my chest and body. A very unfortunate accident that could have been prevented but it has made me a better and safer electrician to this day. As for the wounds on my right hand besides for the lack of feeling I will experience forever it took about 2months for the wounds to heel. This hopefully can be a lesson for all newcombers tothe field.
