:D

Seriously all, if your busy and the economy has not affected you consider yourself blessed, I have a lot of very talented friends out of work now and prospects for their employment are not looking good right now.

I can honestly tell you the current business environment has effected my business in a big way. Residential customers are not calling around trying to find someone that can do the job. Contractors are dropping their pants when the phone rings. Commercial construction is a circus. The cheapest guy out of 50 that can be believed is getting the job. Meaning guys that are bidding $1,500. to do a $25,000. job aren't getting it (true story).

I am handling this by marketing in ways that can be tracked and ways that have proven to make the phone ring and selling the jobs instead of offering estimates. I am charging more for the work that I'm doing than I ever have.

That's what I have been saying the whole time.

By the way, I am sitting in front of the tv right now. There is a news report on about how most of the restaurants are lowering their prices becuase sales are down. Yet McDonalds sales are way up.

Based on the responses in this forum by the experts....

Those restaurant owners are fools they should raise their prices because they are better than McDonalds. Sure nobody will be eating there but let's not worry about reality, let's just keep our fantasy alive.

If sales are down it doesn't mean there are no sales. If some people decide that it is to expensive to eat decent food it may not matter if an entre costs $12, $15, or $18. Friends of mine that own resturants are saying they are down 20%. Raising the cost of the total bill can make up for the decrease in customers.

Another strategy may be to have the local resturant association have a disscusion with the local media about its members lowering prices. They don't mention it was the rice pudding was lower by a quarter. Marketing happens in many forms.

If you need $1500 a month it can be had by selling 10 items for $150 profit or 20 items for $75 profit, but it cant be made by selling 10 items for $75 profit.

I haven't seen prices lowered at local restaurants....last night we went out to dinner at a Houlihans [sp?]...instead of a 45 or 60 minute wait, there was no wait....which works for me ~ it the wait is longer than 10 minutes, I'm off to the next place.

I haven't seen this either. One place where I eat breakfast at a lot the price has recently went up. Not a lot but a little. It's not having any influence on me as far as not going out to breakfast anymore.

I got a quote from a supplier this week for some track lighting I purchased from them a year ago. The price has gone up on all the parts. Example: The tranformer last year was $150. This year it's $180.

They pulled my invoice from last year to get the list of parts I wanted a quote on so they know how much I payed last year.

I like that way of putting it.?

That has to be one of the saddest, send up the white flag statements Ive ever heard in here. So by your logic in the past how did you price out your work? I guess your the type that would inflate his prices based on how busy you are. You telling me that when you price out work you just toss out a number....? \
Sorry Bob I dont expect you to understand this but this is too much.
To all reading this- the comment "the days of hitting home runs is over" just shows you how not to run a successful business.
So tell me sir how many other business are dropping their prices? Are you in the retail business? Last time I checked non of my bills have been reduced, food still cost more, gas is temporarily down but wait until memorial day when it will go back up, then you ll really be crying.
I'm sorry..............I cant stop chuckling to myself.......I keep hearing that comment in my head ......"Days of the Home Runs are over"..........Seriously dude are you telling me that in the past you just picked a number out of a hat and hope people take it? because you had so much work coming in ????? ssssaaaaaaaadddddddd
NOW I THINK IM OFFICAILLY DONE HERE. You guys are hopeless........tsk tsk tsk Yea sure I might be a little brash but at least I have the "moxy" to say it, and I dont lay down like that. I dont think there is anything I can learn from people like that .
Ive been in other forums and this one really takes the cake when it come to sending up the white flag. I see why Marc and some other folk dont frequent this one as much anymore. You guys seem to like quitting cause with statements like that how can one think any different of you.

Yes I have noticed some have been taking extra nasty pills since Marc was railroaded out of here for not COW towing to the click in charge. Think like me or be gone attitude.

Tony, maybe this would be easier to understand.

Think of the economy like a giant apple tree.

When times are good, the fruit is easy pickings, and abundant.

Now, with the ecomony where it is, you need to work a little harder to get to the fruit, becuase all the easy pickings are gone.

The tree didn't die, and the sky didn't fall on it.

The home run comment is the same, either you adapt, and wait for the fruit to come back, or you fade away.

It is not so much a rude comment, or a doom and gloom statement, as it is rather good advice if you understand it.

No, you can't learn anything because you have already decided you know it all.

I haven't seen prices lowered at local restaurants....

They have come down in this area, more specials then ever can be found anywhere.

I don't know, maybe NJ is doing better then here, but I can tell you right now MA is dead.

Went by a 99 yesterday at about noon, it looked like only employee cars, just a month ago the lot would have been full.
