I've seen panels on north-facing roofs around here. Do any of these HO's research "Solar Insolation", the 1 kw per square meter Solar Constant and all that?

Maybe in Arizona or Singapore these panels make sense.

Are they on the south side also?

Anywhere on the equator. The sun is going to move from north to south and back over the course of the year.
Yes, I know. And it was a bit of frivolity. Sort of. More of the land mass and more of the population is north of the Equator.

I have noticed some here on the north side also. Sort of stupid if you ask me.. the HO doesn’t know. He just believes whatever the idiots that sell these things tell them.
and some of the installers are even more clueless.

We have some real good systems on our utility that are actually impressive to look at, and the owners are knowledgeable about what they have.
Too bad they all aren’t like that..

we have a big problem with the salesmen taking advantage of immigrants that trust all salesmen and believe they won’t ever have a power bill again..
coming from countries where power isnt as reliable, they are an easy sell.

One thing we are starting is a rate rider.
we pay almost double the retail rate for all power exported to us during peaking times.

Obviously south facing PV panels will produce more in the northern temperate latitudes than north facing panels. But panel prices have gotten low enough that depending on the local utility economics, adding some north facing panels on a shallow pitched roof may make sense, once you've run out of other usable roof space.

My understanding is modern solar panels are also sensitive to UV light. Given that the sky itself is blue, it might have a lot of UV light in it as well.

Some houses, yes. . .

1 in 3 pitch on some roofs, few flat ones.

I have an aversion to signing any new contract, ever since I've heard of, and seen, companies double billing and triple billing.
An honest mistake is 50:50 in their favor. Odds of 2 in a row in their favor is 1 in 4. 3? One in 8.

If you want to PO them, send a registered letter correcting them and ask that you be compensated for time and cost.
Then it becomes, "No comprende señor!"

Or write to the State's Attorney. He or she might get shamed into doing something.

I guess they are figuring any help is better than none. Optimizing their roof space. What happens when you need a new roof....
As much as the systems cost, it’s not worth it.
I know where there is a $60,000 system on a $40,000 house. It’s stupid..

So PVWatts says that in Rockville, MD, for a tilt of 18 degrees (arctan(1/3)), a north facing panel's annual energy production will be about 70% of what a south facing panel's would be. East or west facing would be around 85%.

That ratio can be confirmed or denied with a 10w panel and a watthourmeter. And your insolation can be checked as we are near the winter solstice.

A Panel rep at the HD hooked me in so I gave him a false address. He wanted to know my e-mail address so I thentold him that I gave him a false street address.
I doubt he knew of insolation, or watts, or anything else besides persuading people.

There are patterns to how these orgs manipulate society and they know more about how I will respond that I know about how I will respond.

Lately I'm telling them that deception is everywhere in nature, that humans, animals and even plants use it, so if he doesn't lie to me he is missing out on a valuable opportunity. Watch his face at this point.
