Don't jump on me.

Don't jump on me.

Here's my point. First and foremost, I understand all of you who say you are only responsible for the initial installation and nothing after. Okay, fine. Sleep well.

Label me paranoid, I don't care, whatever.

One year for whatever reason or another, the face plate is damaged or removed, why, I don't know. Mom's doing dishes downstairs and the 6 year old is in the tub. "Momma, I am all done. Hang on honey, I'll be up in a minute, (maybe 10-15)." Little Timmy see's something intriguing. Maybe he thinks he can finish without Mommy. Maybe little T wants to see just what this magical thing is on the wall the makes the room full of sun. Maybe he's old enough to realize all of the other things in the house like that are covered, why not this one? "Hmmmmmm, just what does this magic thingy do", wonders litte Timmy. "What IS in there?"

Well, sorry Maam, code clearly states I didn't have to install one that year in that location, I was looking out for your wallet. Would you like it protected now? I'll give you a good deal:cool:

No need. Wal-Mart is carrying rated childs footwear as well. I didn't think Timmy would wear his work boots in the tub. If he knew any better, he would of had Class 00 gloves on before poking around at the magic thingy on the wall behind the tub:grin:

On what do you base this being unsafe? What do you want us to say? Perhaps you would be happier if we say "Yes this is an extremely unsafe situation, even though it is acceptable according to the NEC. Anyone within a mile of this installation will surely face certain death"!

Actually, this myth about water and electricity "not mixing" is getting ridiculous. The fact is that we use electricity and water together all of the time as others have mentioned. Properly installed there is no problem.
i think haskindm hit it there.to me seems like he thought it was wrong and all here would back him up and when all didnt he got po'ed

perhaps you didnt read well. I stated it is "over the tub" and a "light switch". Perhaps that is not enough information for you. I thought this might be a helpful site. Perhaps not.

Why do people hate home inspectors again?

Never been in a dwelling where the faceplates were off or something else that was drastically different from the original installation? I have seen somethings that were so baffling they made me sick:mad:

I was on a service call about a month ago and the homeowner claimed he got shocked be his garbage disposal switch when using it with wet hands. He said it happened several times in the past. I understand many people don't think thats possible, but he called me out to repair it for a reason, and I don't think he was making it up.

So what was the reason?

I have always been a little leary of switches within reach of a shower or tub.

I catch myself being conscious of only touching the plastic and not the plate screw when I switch the one that is within reach of my shower.

I agree that under normal circumstances it should not be a big deal but what if the switch failed and the yoke became hot?
Touching the plate screw would be a surprise.

Now a days switches have a ground lead and as long as I knew the yoke was grounded I would feel safe enough.
