cschmid,
I believe I went form lug I mounted on frame to exterior wall along the foundation of addition and buried it to the disconnect.
If you were still getting shocks and the breaker was not clearing the fault, then the main bonding jumper was probably not installed.

Don that was long time ago. I do believe there was more wrong if my memory serves me correctly I actually took some solid #10 and stuck it in one of the outlets welded for a sec to get the breaker to trip and after I change out that breaker and replace the outlet it worked much better. I believe it was an old GE breaker. freaky things happen in old stuff.. I did check the main bonding a habit on stuff like that.

Derek back to the ground rod issue. I know I am not the only on this web site with the secondary wording issue. I wonder if it does not come from this phrase and I hope I get it correct as I do not have my code book with me right now. It says in the NEC that you must bond the water line to the grounding electrode and the ufer ground (concrete encased re-bar of the foundation) to the grounding electrode. I wonder if the bonding term is where we are confusing our selves.

cschnid,

I think it might be worthwhile for you to go to NEC chapter 100 and look up these definitions.

Bonding (bonded)
Bonding Jumper
Bonding Jumper, Equipment
Bonding Jumper, Main
Ground
Grounded
Grounded Effectively
Grounded Conductor
Grounding Conductor
Grounding Conductor, Equipment
