I myself have learned from this post that there are 3 maybe 4 opinions on this subject and we could beat it to death for another week and nothing would change.
I see the point of the EC's here. You guys have and continue to pay a high price to be in business and I can see where it annoys you when you see someone wiring a house on the side for a lot less than you could.
I've wired a few houses on the side but it's been awhile and I don't think I would now if someone asked me to.
I don't mind doing little small stuff on the side that most EC's don't have time to do. A ballast here a ceiling fan there, you know what I mean.
Some of us need the money that side work brings in. I was in that group for a long time. I won't apoligize for it either.
The argument that working on the side produces sub-par work is another
that will always be tit for tat. You get that out of EC's too. That's also been pointed out many times.
But guys, there's a lot of people out here that need electrical work done to get their house safe and free of hazards. But, they can't afford you. Not being mean, just truthful. As long as the Electrician is licensed and if MAJOR
changes are being made and it is inspected. "In my area the homeowner can pull the permit." I don't have a problem with it.
I'll stop with one final thing: Who mows your grass? The kid down the street
who's saving for his first car or the Licensed and insured lawn maintainance contractor that pays the same fees as you.
